01What this site is made of

Five pages of HTML, one stylesheet and one script, served as files. There is no database behind them, no content system, no login and nothing on the server that knows you were here beyond the ordinary request log any web host keeps in order to serve pages at all.

There is no form on this site. The two sheets — the comparator on the opening page and the run sheet on the measuring page — are arithmetic done inside your browser by the script. Nothing you type into either of them is sent anywhere, stored anywhere, or remembered between visits: close the tab and the figures are gone. The only way to reach the office is to write an email, and that happens in your own mail program, not here.

02The one request to somebody else

Each page asks your browser to fetch one stylesheet from Google Fonts, which is how the two typefaces on this site arrive. That request goes to Google and not to this office, and like any request it tells the far end your network address and which page asked. It is the only third-party request any page here makes.

Block it and nothing breaks: the pages set themselves in Georgia and in your system sans instead, every figure stays where it is, and both sheets go on working. There is no tracking script, no pixel, no embedded map, no social widget, no advertising and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

03What the office keeps after an order

An email you send sits in a mailbox and is read by one person. If it turns into an order, the office then holds the name and delivery address needed to address a parcel, the email address used to send the tracking number, a note of which line and which unit went out, and the figures from the measurement slip that travelled with it.

That last item is the one that is specific to this trade. It is kept because a return has to be checked against what actually went out, and because the figure a returned piece measures goes back into the record of its run. The rest is kept for as long as a company’s accounting records have to be kept, and then it goes.

The postal service is given a name and an address on a label, because a parcel cannot be addressed without one. Payment is taken by a payment provider, which means a card number never reaches this office; what reaches it is the fact that a payment was taken and a reference to it.

04What the office does not keep

There is no marketing list, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from. Nobody is sent anything they did not ask for. There is no record of what you looked at on this site, because nothing on this site is watching. Correspondence is not passed to anyone, and nothing held here is sold or shared for anybody else’s purposes.

Measurement records are the exception to all of this, and they are not about people. A spread, a date and a run size describe cloth. They stay in the book whether or not anything was ever sold.

05Asking what is held, and having it changed

Write to sales@shaidirect.shop with the order reference from your confirmation email, and the reply will set out what is held against that order. A wrong address or a misspelt name is corrected on the spot. Correspondence can be deleted on request.

What cannot be deleted on request is the accounting record of a sale, for as long as the law requires it to be kept — the same rule that applies to any company, and the reason an order cannot simply be erased from the book.

06What the measurements are a record of

Every figure on the current list is a record of units measured on the bench at St. Fagans Road, after one wash, on a date. It is a record and not a promise about cloth that has not been bought yet: a later run of the same cloth gets its own card and its own tolerance, as the measuring page sets out.

The tolerance printed beside a width is the band the whole of that run sat inside. A unit that misses its own band is held back rather than packed, and if one reaches you anyway it goes back the way the despatch page describes and the record is corrected. None of what is on this site reduces the rights the distance-selling rules give a buyer; where they say more, they win.

Nothing about any individual is published on this site, and no page here carries a name.
